Rigorous Analysis of (Distributed) Simulation Results

چکیده
Formal static analysis of the correctness and complexity of scalable and adaptive algorithms for distributed systems is difficult and often not appropriate. Rather, tool support is required to facilitate the 'trial and error' approach which is often adopted. Simulation supports this experimental approach well. In this paper we discuss the need for a rigorous approach to simulation results analysis and model validation. These aspects are often neglected in simulation studies, particularly in distributed simulation. Our aim is to provide the practitioner with a set of guidelines which can be used as a ‘recipe’ in different simulation environments, making sound techniques (simulation and statistics) accessible to users. We demonstrate use of the suggested analysis method with two different distributed simulators (CNCSIM [8]) and (NEST[3]) thus illustrating its generality. The same guidelines may be used with other simulation tools to ensure meaningful results while obviating the need to acquire more detailed knowledge in the area.

Fully Distributed Modeling, Analysis and Simulation of an Improved Non-Uniform Traveling Wave Structure
Modeling and simulation of communication circuits at high frequency are important challenges ahead in the design and construction of these circuits. Knowing the fact that the lumped element model is not valid at high frequency, distributed analysis is presented based on active and passive transmission lines theory. In this paper, a lossy transmission line model of traveling wave switch (TWSW) i...
متن کاملDesign, Analysis and Simulation of a Linear Phase Distributed Amplifier
In this paper a new method for the design of a linear phase distributed amplifier in 180nm CMOS technology is presented. The method is based on analogy between transversal filters and distributed amplifiers topologies. In the proposed method the linearity of the phase at frequency range of 0-50 GHz is obtained by using proper weighting factors for each gain stage in cascaded amplifier topology....
متن کاملGenerating Antithetic Random Variates in Simulation of a Replacement Process by Rejection Method
When the times between renewals in a renewal process are not exponentially distributed, simulation can become a viable method of analysis. The renewal function is estimated through simulation for a renewal process simulation for a renewal process with gamma distributed renewal times and the shape parameter a > 1. Gamma random deviates will be generated by means of the so called Acceptance Rejec...
متن کاملA rigorous proof of the cavity method for counting matchings
In this paper we rigorously prove the validity of the cavity method for the problem of counting the number of matchings in graphs with large girth. Cavity method is an important heuristic developed by statistical physicists that has lead to the development of faster distributed algorithms for problems in various combinatorial optimization problems. The validity of the approach has been supporte...
متن کاملUltra-Widband Distributed Amplifier Using Loss Compensation Technique on Both Input and Output Circuit
In this paper, we analyze a distributed amplifier based on input/output attenuation compensation. The analysis is carried out for a HEMT transistor; and a constant-k section filter is used to calculate the amplifier’s characteristics such as attenuation factor, phase constant and gain. The proposed design approach enables us to examine the tradeoff among the variables, which include the type an...
